Match report: Liverpool 4 - 3 Manchester City

Three goals in a nine minute spell helped Liverpool to a 4 - 3 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, January 14.

The defeat was the first of the season for Pep Guardiola's side in the league this season as they bowed to a tactically superior Liverpool side.

The game promised a lot of excitement and it surely did not disappoint with chances aplenty for both sides.

As early as the fourth minute Liverpool could have been ahead when Firmino found Mane with a ball over the top but the Senegalese controlled the ball away from goal and Salah's atempt to shoot from the chance was wasted.

The Reds went ahead through Oxlade-Chamberlain who scored a worldie as he picked up a loose ball in midfield, ran past Fernandinho and fired a long range effort past Ederson.

Liverpool continues to press and have the possession but City almost drew level when De Bruyne sent a teasing cross across the box in the 19th minute but there was no one to attack it.

City drew level three minutes before the break through Sane who slammed home past Karius in goal after taking apart Joe Gomes and Dejan Lovren following an incredible piece of skill on the left.

The second half was a complete mismatch as Liverpool ran riot scoring three goals in a ten minute spell.

Firmino made it two to the Reds in the 56th minute after he picked an Oxlade-Chamberlain through ball, bullied John Stones and lobbed/curled his attempt past Ederson.

Mane made it two when he slammed him with his weaker left foot after he was found by Mohamed Salah outside the box.

Salah himself got on the act as when he lobbed Ederson from 35 yards after the Brazilian cleared a loose to the foot of the Egyptian.

Bernadao Silva however pulled one back for City in the 84th minute after coming on for former Liverpool man Raheem Sterling who was booed throughout his time on the pitch.

IIkay Gundogan made it 4 - 3 in injury time as Pep Guardiola's side looked to get a way back into the game.

Liverpool move up third on the table with 47 points level with Chelsea in fourth but with a better goal difference.

Manchester United are also level on points but have a game in hand which is against Stoke City on Monday, January 15.
