- Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants to sign a new centre back in January
- Southampton's Virgil van Dijk and Real Sociedad's Inigo Martinez are on the list
- Centre backs John Stones and Vincent Kompany are both currently out injured
Premier League high flyer Manchester City are considering a defensive reinforcement hence they are plotting moves for Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk and Sociedad's Inigo Martinez.
City are short at the back with long time injury to England international Jonh Stones and Club captain Vincent Kompany has struggled to stay fit in recent years.
According to reports reaching NAIJ.com, Guardiola has told City’s chiefs that a new defender needs to be side if the team want to continue their strong challenge in all competitions this term.
Real Sociedad’s Inigo Martinez is also on City’s shortlist but the report claims that Guardiola wants Van Dijk to be the priority target.
"In that department we have few, few players and of course to handle all to competitions we are in trouble, real trouble." Guardiola said.

Martinez’s release clause is £29million, less than Jonny Evans would have cost had City managed to seal that deal in August.
Van Dijk, still a target for Liverpool after their failed summer attempt, would find it easier to slot in at the Etihad Stadium.
