Manchester United came from a goal down to defeat Russian side CSKA Moscow by two goals to one at Old Trafford on Tuesday, December 5.
The Red Devils knew they only needed a point to guarantee qualification and to seal number one spot on the table but it was not a straight foward game for them.
Mourinho's men despite dominating the first half found themselves a goal down on the half time mark in controversial circumstance when Vitinho's strike looked to have hit Dzagoev who was in an offside position.
United had been wasteful all first half with Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku guilty of missing gilt edge chances.
The second half started like the first half with United bombarding the Russian defense and they finally broke the resilience of CSKA in the 64th minute when a pin-point pass from Pogba found Lukaku who brilliantly dispatched the ball into the net.
It was a quick fire double for the three times European Champions as Juan Mata's brilliant pass found Rashford who coolly slotted the ball pass Akinfeev in the CSKA goal less than two minutes after Lukaku's opener.

Lukaku was subbed off for birtday boy Anthony Martial and Herrera and Valencia also made way for Tuanzebe and Scott McTominay as Mourinho looked to have an eye on the Manchester derby at the weekend.
Manchester United confirmed qualification for the Champions League second round for the first time since 2014, they will have to wait till Monday, December 11 to know their round of 16 opponents.
