Nigeria will improve - Dalung promises after WAFU Cup final defeat

- Solomon Dalung hails WAFU cup as a victory for the whole ECOWAS region

- The minister promises Nigerians the home based Super Eagles will improve after loss to Ghana

- Nigeria lost 4 - 1 to the Black Stars in the final of the 2017 WAFU Cup on Sunday night

- Kano Pillars captain Rabiu Alli scored a consolation with the last kick of the game

Nigeria's minister of sport Solomon Dalung has hailed the Black Stars of Ghana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria for playing "as brothers and not as enemies" in the final of the 2017 WAFU Cup.

The Super Eagles lost 4 - 1 in the final and despite the bad result, Dalung says the Nigerian players showed courage and zeal.

In a post on Facebook, Dalung said: "This is the joint delegation of Nigeria Minister of Youth & Sports and that of Ghana chatting with the participating players and having a hand shake with each while encouraging them to play as brothers and not as enemies as the victory of WAFU is a victory of ECOWAS.

"In our last encounter today between our indefatigable Super Eagles home based players and the Black Stars of Ghana, though Rabiu Ali scored a stunning free kick late in the game, but it could not change anything as the Super Eagles settled for second place.

"We lost to Ghana 4:1 to settle for 2nd place. I salute the zeal and demonstration of courage showed by our players.

"The mistakes made in Cape Coast today and the lessons learned, I assure our teaming supporters that it will be worked upon to improve on in our future appearances . Thank you and God bless our country Nigeria"

Two Goals from Stephen Sarfo and one apiece from Atingah and Cobbina helped the Black Stars to a 4 - 1 victory against the Home based Super Eagles.

Kano Pillars midfielder Rabiu Alli scored a consolation with a superb freekick with the last kick of the game.
