Ghana have won the 2017 West African Football Union (WAFU) championship on Sunday September 24 after beating Super Eagles 4-1 in the final.

The Black Stars exemplified great stuff of champions in the encounter and the Super Eagles of Nigeria would have themselves to blame for their lackluster performance.

Nigeria went into the encounter unbeaten with Super Eagles' goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa hoping to finish the tournament without conceding a goal, but he was badly exposed by Nigerian defenders and his wings were clipped.

Superb striker Stephen Sarfo scored the first goal for Ghana in the 44th minute after a shocking gaffe from the Nigerian defense as Ezenwa was left helpless.

Atingah netted the second goal for Ghana via a penalty in the 60th minute although Nigerian players protested against the decision of the referee.

Stephen Sarfo then compounded Super Eagles' woes when the striker scored the third goal for Ghana via another penalty, while Cobbina netted the fourth goal.

Sarfo finished as the championship highest goalscorer with four goals as he went home with the golden boot.

There was however time for a late drama as Ghana's second goal scorer Atingah was sent off for his second booking of the night, before Kano Pillars midfielder Rabiu Ali scored the consolation for Nigeria at the final minute, but there was no time again for the Super Eagles to recover as Ghana won 4-1.
