- Super Eagles team B on Monday night defeated Sierra Leone in the WAFU Cup
- Nigeria have now qualified for the group stage of the championship in Ghana
- They will face their West African foes Ghana in their tie on Thursday September 14
The Super Eagles home based team have qualified into the group stage of the 2017 WAFU Cup championship holding in Ghana after beating Sierra Leone 2-0 on Monday night September 11.
But the Super Eagles team labored in the match as they had to wait till the final seven minutes of stoppage time before Salisu Yusuf's side recorded a deserved win over their foes.
Sierra Leone dominated the opening exchanges and almost took the lead three minutes in when Donald Wellington drove behind the defence, but failed to beat the Nigerian keeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa in a one-on-one situation.
Ezenwa was certainly at his best for Nigeria between the sticks with yet another close range save to deny Nathaniel Tongo Vula in the 15th minute when he broke behind the defense.
Moses Okoro and Moses Peter then scored the two goals for Nigeria that condemned Sierra Leone to a 2-0 defeat.
Nigeria will now take on hosts Ghana in a Group A clash on Thursday, September 14, before taking on Mali and Guinea who are the other teams in their group.
