The home-based Super Eagles are close to losing out on a place at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as a 1 - 0 loss to Benin republic in the first leg of the CHAN Qualifier.
Head coach Salisu Yusuf started the game with Kano Pillar's Rabiu Alli, Chima Akas and Ikechukwu Ezenwa of FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
The Squirrels carved out the Eagles with a number of chances in the first half; the cross bar coming to the rescue on one occasion.
The only goal of the game came via a penalty in the 90th minute. Aremu lost the ball in the box and committed a foul in a bid to win it back.
The referee pointed to the spot and Mama Seibou scored the penalty to give Benin the win in the game.

The return leg in Nigeria will be played on Saturday, 19th August in Kano or Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state.
