A last gasp finish by Pepe was all Portugal needed to force Mexico in to extra-time in a mouth-watering 3rd-place play off at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

An own-goal by Neto in the 55th minute had given the Mexicans the lead as they hoped to claim bronze at the tournament for the first time.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo could not make the match as he is away to see his twin boys who were delivered by his surrogate mother.

The player left the Confederations Cup early following his side's semi-final defeat to Chile.

He was missed in the third-place as his colleagues missed a handful of chances in the second-half before Pepe’s last minute equalizer which forced the game into extra-time.

Mexico began the first 15 minutes with so much intensity as they sought for the lead yet again but their hearts were broken Nestor Arujo handed the ball inside the box as he gave away a penalty.

Portugal’s Adrien Silver stood-up and converted from the spot to make it Portugal 2 – 1 Mexico, and that was how it ended.
