- Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has stated that inexperience cost his wards the defeat against South Africa
- Many Nigerian football fans are still livid with the Super Eagles' shocking loss against Bafana Bafana in Uyo
- Nigeria will now have to win their remaining qualifying games to stand the chance of qualification
After opening their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier with an embarrassing home defeat against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, has explained reasons Nigeria lost to South Africa.
The German tactician stated that his wards were inexperience against their much heralded opponents in the encounter played in Uyo.
''My young team played a very good first half, but didn't score. We knew that in the second half, the experienced team of SA would be dangerous on counters, and that's what happened.
"We had difficulties to finish the match. My players did not cope physically in the second half because of the efforts they put in the first half.
"I believe that with this kind of game the young team will make progress. They will not repeat this same mistake.
"We controlled the game till after the goal, then they became nervous," he said.
The Super Eagles' defeat to South Africa has now put their hope of qualifying for the 2019 Nations Cup in Cameroon in serious doubt as Gernot Rohr's men must win their remaining qualifying games to stand the chance.
