Real Madrid on Sunday night, May 14, defeated Sevilla 4 – 1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to keep pressure on arch rivals who sit on the La Liga standings.
Los Blancos controversially opened the scoring in the 10th minute when it looked like the referee had signaled for a freekick when Daniel Carrico from Sevilla tripped Marco Asensio on the edge of the box; but Nacho Fernandez hit the ball straight into the net and the goalcounted as the ref played advantage.
Cristiano Ronaldo doubled the lead with the simplest of all tap-ins from closed-range to put his side on the drivers seat.
The visitors reduced the deficit via a spectacular finish by Stevan Jovetic who expertly curled the ball home from outside the area.
From that moment on, Sevilla continued to pile the pressure, but they missed a flurry of chances to deny the home side all three points.
A masterful finish by Cristiano Ronaldo made it 3-1 in the 78th minute with foot before Toni Kroos completed the rout barely six minutes to the end. It ended; Real Madrid 4-1 Sevilla.
With 87 points Barcelona who also defeated Las Palmas 4-1 away from home continue to lead Real Madrid with better goals difference, but Zinedine Zidane's men have an outstanding game against Celta Vigo, which will be played on Wednesday, May 17.
