Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel will miss Nigeria's AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa on the 10 June in Uyo.

The player's agent told Owngoalnigeria.com that his client will not be fit for the game as he has suffered a set back in the race to be fit for the tie.

The agent, John Ola Shittu says Mikel travelled from China to London to seek special treatment for his ailment.

”It’s true, he will most likely not be fit for the game against South Africa. He told me after I called him to confirm, if it’s true that he has suffered a setback in his quest to be fit,” he told Owngoalnigeria.com.

"He is in London as we speak, and seeing doctors who are familiar with his health case. The initial news is not pleasant. These things happen, so we have to take it the way it is.”

In the Tianjin Teda midfielder's absence the likes of Ogenyi Onazi, Wilfred Ndidi, John Ogu will be expected to step up.
