Onazi plays down injury against Senegal, may play against B'Faso

Nigeria’s Ogenyi Onazi has played down his injury against Senegal in a friendly game last night, March 23, ahead of the Super Eagles next clash against Burkina-Faso.

Onazi, who captained the Super Eagles last night due to John Obi Mikel’s absence, sustained a back injury after he was struck by the knee of Senegalese Cheikhou Kouyaté.

Shortly after the game, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr said: “He (Onazi) suffered a serious back injury. He’ll have a scan to ascertain the extent of his injury.”

However, the injury picked up by the 24-year-old, may not be as bad as we thought.

This follows Onazi’s recent post on his Instagram page as he disclosed he could be back for Super Eagles next friendly against Burkina-Faso.

Ogenyi Onazi, got injured in the first half of the game against Senegal and was stretched out.

Elderson Echiejile was handed the captain’s arm band after Onazi’s forced exit.

NAIJ.com gathered that Nigeria will return to action on March 27 when they take on the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the same venue.
