Ahead of the 2017 edition of the Lagos marathon scheduled for February 11, the Lagos state government has assured that the event will be top-notch as plans have been made for it to be a huge success.
In an exclusive chat with NAIJ.com Sports in Lagos, the senior special assistant to the Lagos state governor on sports Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka stated that the 2017 edition will be quite different from that of the previous year.
“This year’s edition is going to be quite different because the governor of Lagos state Akinwunmi Ambode is fully involved. All hands are on deck.
“He has promised to sign all the volunteers’ form personally. For a governor to endorse over 2000 volunteers and all participants is not an easy job.
Speaking further, Anthony Adeyinka advised participants to prepare adequately for the 2017 edition saying the cash up for grabs could be won by anybody not just the elites.
“We have elite athletes in Nigeria and we believe this is a level playing ground for everyone. We want everyone to be prepared for it.
“It is a mindset thing and there is nothing stopping a Nigerian from coming first. But like I said, everyone should be prepared," he concluded.
Recall that Kenya’s Abraham Kipton emerged winner of the first edition in 2016 coming in at 2hours 16 minutes 21seconds to claim the grand prize of $50,000 as fellow country-man Hossei came second and Ethiopia’s Debebe Ethosa coming third both wining $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
