Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has picked his fourth Ballon d’Or award but he is not the only star in history to have picked up the award multiple times.
Numerous players have won two awards like Kevin Keegan, Franz Beckenbauer, Alfredo Di Stefano and Ronaldo De Lima but only five players have won the coverted award three times or more.
Here are five players in the exclusive club of three of more Ballon d'Or awards;
1. Michel Platini
Won three awards in 1983, 1984, 1985 and finished second runner up in 1977, 1980. The Juventus and France legend led his country to Euro 1984 glory.
2. Johan Cruyff
Probably the most influential player and coach the world has ever seen. The Dutchman is a legend with Barcelona, Ajax and the Natherlands.
Won the award in 1971, 1973, 1974 and second runner up in 1975.
3. Marco Van Basten
The AC Milan and Ajax legend is probably the greatest number 9 the world has ever seen. Won the award 1988, 1989, 1992. His career was cruelly cut short by injury at the age 28.
4. Cristiano Ronaldo
A modern great and a very hardworking player. ROnaldo has won four Ballon d'Or awards and could have won more but for a certain Lionel Messi living in his era.
Finished first in 2008, 2013, 2014 and most recently in 2016. Finished second in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015.
5. Lionel Messi
Probably the greatest player the world has ever seen. Messi has won the award more times than any other person. He lifted the award in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015.
He finished second in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and third in 2007.
