Education they say is the best legacy, but going by what they earn at their various clubs on a weekly basis, many football players have shown nonchalant attitudes to education as hardly would you be able to trace any educational background of some players who have made lots of money from football.
There are some highly educated famous footballers who have also combined education with their playing career, and here we bring you six of them.
1. Steve Harper
Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper is one of the educated players as he holds a degree in Social Science from Liverpool John Moores University.
2. Nedum Onuoha
Ex Manchester City defender Nedum Onuaha holds a degree in Information Communication Technology (ICT) and also has the qualification to attend any University in England.
3. David Wetherall
Ex Leeds United defender David Wetherall was said to be the first Premier League player to have graduated with a first class honors in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield in 1992.
4. Duncan Watmore
In the year 2015, Sunderland midfielder Duncan Watmore graduated with a first class degree in Economics from the University of Newcastle.
5. Frank Lampard
Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard is also one the educated footballers as he holds a degree in Latin. The English man scored 211 goals for the Blues in 648 games.
6. Juan Mata
Manchester United player Juan Mata is one of the famous footballers playing in the Premier League, and the Spaniard holds a degree in Sports Science and Finance at Madrid's Universidad Camilo Jose Cela.
