A Mbao FC player, Ismail Mrisho Khalifan, collapsed and died in a U-20 League match against Mwadui FC on Sunday, December 4, the Tanzania Football Federation has confirmed.
According to the report, Khalifan, 19, collided with Mwadui defender with 16 minutes left to play and he collapsed.
It was gathered that the medics were immediately ushered into the scene but as Ismail condition did not improve, he was rushed to a nearby hospital in the Kagera Region where he was certified dead.
“We have received with deep sorrow the news about the death of the player and we send our condolences to the parents, family, teammates, classmates at Mwanza Seco and the General football family,” the TFF said in a statement.
Ismail Mrisho Khalifan's death comes barely a month after a Gambian female goalkeeper, Fatim Jawara, died while attempting to cross to Europe by boat.
It was gathered that Jawara met her sudden death after she attempted cross to Europe through Libya, where she is said to have spent weeks in a secluded camp in Misrata.
